In addition to the Rijksmuseum's general terms and conditions for visitors and the rules for safe visits, an additional set of rules applies when visiting the Rijksmuseum Research Library and the Study Room Prints & Drawings:

  • Admission is only possible with a valid proof of identity, material requested in advance, and a workspace reservation. The reservation does not give access to the rest of the museum.
  • Leave your coat, bag and umbrella at the checkroom or in the lockers (both free of charge). A transparent plastic bag is allowed. Bring your own bag, or ask for a free bag at the checkroom. Our bags are made of recycled plastic and can be reused on your next visit.
  • Bringing your own books is not allowed. Also, eating and drinking is not allowed.
  • Collections may only be consulted on site.
  • For handling works on paper (drawings, prints, photos, special books) and other vulnerable material you will receive instruction on site.
  • Taking pictures and making scans of the materials are permitted for personal use. Works on paper and works from the library's special collections require permission from a reading room staff member before you photograph or make scans.
  • Please follow the instructions of the employees at all times.

How do we keep the visit safe for everyone?

  • Do you have a cold? Then stay at home and cancel an existing reservation by contacting us at studiezaal@rijksmuseum.nl.
  • Keep distance from each other.
  • Bring your own working materials such as laptop, usb-stick (for the scanner), camera, paper and pencil.
  • Wash your hands before entering, and as often as possible during your visit. Facilities for this can be reached via the Study Room Prints & Drawings.
  • The workstations will be disinfected regularly. The rooms are also equipped with disinfectants to disinfect your work material and the book scanner.
