Wally
Survival on a plantation in Suriname
Wally worked his entire life on a plantation in Suriname that was owned by Jonas Witsen in Amsterdam. Witsen never went to Suriname himself, but sent the artist Dirk Valkenburg there to make drawings of his properties.
ACTIVITY
In the Rijksmuseum, we are going to paint on clothing made in third world countries, such as shirts from Primark, H&M and Zara. We will attach these to the sculpture of Wally.
- Paint what you like most in the exhibition.
- Paint something you dislike/hate.
- Paint a feeling/emotion.
- Help with stapling clothing to the sculpture, the spatial painting.
FROM HOME
Mail us places in the world where the clothes you are wearing come from. We will incorporate all of these places in the sculpture.
