Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen at Rijksmuseum
Monet, Kusama, Dalí, Picasso, Mondriaan, Rubens
See a selection of exceptional art from the collection of Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen this autumn at the Rijksmuseum – from Yayoi Kusama to Pablo Picasso. And everyone outside the museum on Museum Square will be able to see Ugo Rondinone’s light installation Breathe, Walk, Die.
Selection from the collection
The Rijksmuseum is staging this exciting exhibition because Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is closed for major renovations. We are keen for art from its collection to remain on display in the Netherlands during this period. This show is running from 29 September 2023 to 14 January 2024 and presents 90 selected works – by artists such as Bosch, Rubens, Bruegel, Rembrandt and Van Gogh, as well as Monet, Mondriaan, Munch and Dalí.
All of human life
The exhibition is based around various themes, allowing for the display of a wide range of artworks from all historical eras. Exhibits include The Tower of Babel by Pieter Bruegel, The Little Fourteen-Year-Old Dancer by Edgar Degas and Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirror Room. Rijksmuseum curator Friso Lammertse says: ‘This exhibition takes a journey into human existence through art from the Middle Ages to today. While so many aspects of human life are universal – birth, youth, growing up, sexuality, ageing and death – we have experienced them differently across the centuries.’
Audio tour with Raven van Dorst
For the audio tour accompanying the exhibition, Rotterdam-based presenter and musician Raven van Dorst wandered with the curators from artwork to artwork, discussing the themes of the exhibition. There is also a musical tour by composer, producer and DJ Upsammy.
