Teekenschool
As the main sponsor of the Rijksmuseum’s multidisciplinary education centre the Teekenschool, Fonds 21 contributes to the development and organization of workshops, theatre productions, courses and programmes for primary and secondary education.
Learning to look by doing
At the Teekenschool, everything centres on ‘learning to look by doing’, with a wide range of programmes, workshops and courses designed for various age groups. It has three studios: a visual arts studio, a photography studio and a Golden Age theatre.
With its contribution, Fonds 21 invests in the development of high-quality and accessible art education programming.
Art education enriches, provides different views and vantage points, strengthens visual literacy, cultivates social skills and contributes to a respect for other people’s opinions. That’s how art education makes a positive contribution to today’s society.
Marie Hélène Cornips, Director of Fonds 21
The Rijksmuseum wants to connect young people with art and history and to enhance their visit with innovative educational programmes. We are very fortunate that Fonds 21 shares our ambition and is making it possible to offer these programmes at the Teekenschool.

Drawing, painting and photography plus history
The Rijksmuseum believes creativity is something we all have and enjoy. The Teekenschool challenges visitors to discover and build their creativity with the Rijksmuseum collection as the focal point. The objective is to learn through an exploratory process guided by individual curiosity, through not only drawing but also painting, photography and discovering the history of the 17th century.
This programming includes our multimedia design workshop Dutch Design in the Golden Age (winner of the 2017 NOT innovation award) for secondary vocational education students, a historical theatre workshop featuring Hugo de Groot or Nova Zembla titled You & the Golden Age for families with children, and master classes for adults on Rembrandt van Rijn or 21st-century photographers.
Fonds 21 also supports the Rijksmuseum’s development and implementation of the secondary vocational education elective unit ‘Making a museum product’. A number of purchases were also made possible by the fund.
