Exhibition held at the Design Museum in Den Bosch with accompanying catalogue of around 200 decorative arts design drawings in the collection of the Rijksmuseum.

About the project

Starting on 5 November 2022, the Design Museum in Den Bosch will be staging an exhibition of around 200 European design drawings for the decorative arts, largely acquired from the Decorative Art Fund/ Rijksmuseum Fonds set up in 2013. The exhibition and catalogue will trace the entire process of design, manufacture, sale and marketing of applied artworks on the basis of the role that drawings played in that process.

Aim of the project

The exhibition will present a new section of the Rijksmuseum’s collection, and will explain the philosophy behind the structure of this new collection. To date very little attention has been devoted to the phenomenon of the design drawing. The emphasis will be on the object depicted in the drawing, and not on the drawing itself. This project will pay tribute to the many private individuals whose efforts have contributed to the formation of the collection.
