Abstract

"Lay Hsiang is a talented writer who also uses imagery to recount personal and family memories as well as historic events. To compile his photographer's book, researchers combed through a large volume of historical documents and photographs. The book includes many previously unpublished manuscripts and images. Utilizing joint interviews, historic documents, and files, researchers show the underlying structure of Lay's creative image-making process while also exploring his profound humanism and cultural traits. Lay's ability to shift between literature, drawing, photography, and documentary filmmaking underscores the uninhibited, poetic nature of his creative achievements"-- Foreword from the director of NTMoFA (page 7).
