Abstract

"Chen Shun-chu [...] made photography a primary element of his creative process. His portraits of family and everyday scenes recall past fragments from his life. The tools he used to recraft memories and life manifestations included creative reconstruction, layering, replenishment, and reinstalment, and the resulting works trigger the imaginations of viewers. Chen's distinctive style shows how images could be combined with readymade objects, installations, and spaces to create new aesthetic appearances. Chen instilled thoughts and ideas that lingered in his mind into his art.
