Abstract
Originally published in 1662, this book contained the first mention in English of the art of engraving in mezzotint. The corrections and additions in this edition are “taken from the margin of the author’s own printed copy.” See Levis, Bib. of Engraving...14, 30 and 115. This copy is the second issue of the second edition; the first issue appeared in 1755. Bridson/ Wakeman B5. The catalogue The Philip Hofer Bequest (Houghton Library, Harvard), no. 34, gives a good note. Keynes 34. (Charles Wood, Cat. 160)
