Paul Klee: die Engel

Abstract

Paul Klee (1879-1940) produced a unique, extraordinarily popular group of works; higher beings not only stand for spirituality, but also for skepticism and doubt toward religion and questions of faith. Besides the biographical references and iconographic phrases, the publication sheds light on individual works, such as 'Angelus Novus', which inspired Walter Benjamin to develop his legendary concept of the "Angel of History." 0Exhibition: Zentrum Paul Klee, Bern, Switzerland (26.10.2012-20.1.2013) / Museum Folkwang, Essen, Germany (1.2.-14.4.2013) / Hamburger Kunsthalle, Germany (26.4.-7.7.2013).
