Abstract
Documents the generations of the Sills family, who were professional photographers from the 1900s to the 1970s in Chile. The book explores their history, technique and stylistic characteristics. Their favorite genre was the studio portrait, but Armando was a traveling photographer. Armando, an active photographer in the north of Chile between 1990-1940; his eldest son, Arturo, under the pen name of Juan Gallardo worked during the 1930s and 1940s in Rancagua, his second son Heriberto worked in Punta Arenas, Sewell and Rancagua between 1936 and 1969. Due to the study of these three professionals, not only the history as a family, but a piece of the history of photography in Chile is developed. Fondart has attributed a total of 465 images that can be attributed to the three photographers. From this eventually, this study intends to publish the life and work of the photographers in different periods and shows the continuity and ruptures experimented by the profession, on a technical, aesthetic and commercial level.
