Keep Greenland a secret: Keep Greenland a secret

By

Abstract

"My first trip to Greenland was for a photo project about mail boats. I sailed with the Greenland postal ferry Sarfaq Ittuk from the southern tip of Greenland to Ilulissat on the Diskobay. It was in the early spring of 2015. There was still plenty of snow and at the end of the journey the sun no longer set. There mail boat sometimes got stuck in the ice. We sailed through the Diskobay surrounded by towering icebergs. I found it beautiful and exciting. I soon decided to return and did so in 2018 and 2019. However, it was not only the scenery that captivated me. It was also the people who lived there and the fact that by the melting icecap major changes were going to take place on earth and therefore also in Greenland. This photo book is the first part of my Greenlandic experiences. I use a geographical perspective and will elaborate on the following areas: • by mail boat Sarfaq Ittuk, sailing from the south of Greenland to Nuuk; • Nuuk, capital of Greenland; • by mail boat Sarfaq Ittuk, sailing from Nuuk to Ilulissat on the Diskobay; • Diskobay; • East Greenland; • the Scoresbysund fjord system."-- Foreword (page [7]).
