Abstract

These volumes offer a detailed view of the materiality of the scrolls of Kasuga Gongen genki e, a set of painted handscrolls seen as a foundational work of Japanese painting. The essays provide an outline of the research institute's optical imaging project, which is aimed at determining the original components and techniques of the art work. Complementary X-ray fluorescence analysis data was issued as a supplemental volume to wrap up the technical documentation.
