Abstract

Photographer Hessel Bosch has a lens as his third eye. After almost half a century of working by 'the rules' within professional photography, the only rule in his free work is that there are no rules. Hessel travels all over the world for his urban photo series, looking for the hidden treasures under the moss of history. He sees beauty in things that others hardly notice, no detail that escapes him and no nuance that escapes him. His passion for industrial, cultural and architectural heritage gives the past a new dimension: raw, rough, pure and naked. In addition to his urban series, Hessel also takes portrait photos. He searches for the right atmosphere, background, angle and incidence of light, while at the same time ensuring that the subject forgets that the camera is aimed at him or her. The publication 'Hessel' offers an overview of the idiosyncratic free work of photographer Hessel Bosch.
