Herbert List: Panoptikum

  • Alternate title

    Panopticum

Abstract

"'The panopticon, so it was thought, would soon enough be shunted aside by motion pictures, but the reality was different. The appeal of the panopticon is that it contains an additional dimension: it puts the sensational on view through sculpture. Close enough to touch... Artificial human beings look back at one--upraised, done-up corpses. Frozen in violent poses, they are inhabitants of Sleeping Beauty's castle.' Herbert List, 1946"-- On back of cover.
