Fotografía en Uruguay: historia y usos sociales

Abstract

The present book is the outcome of diverse research projects held at the "Núcleo de Investigación y preservación del patrimonio fotográfico uruguayo" coordinated by the academic staff of the Universidad de la República. The coordinated expertise of historians, researches in photography, digitalization technicians, and biologists specialized in fungus produced a multidisciplinary work highlighting the importance of photography in the social history of Uruguay in the second half of the 19th century and the early decades of the 20th century. The edition comprises essays on the polysemic character of photography, its social uses, its physicochemical composition and its deterioration process.
