Folkwang und die Stadt

Abstract

"Uniting art with life and the city: this is what museum founder Karl Ernst Osthaus already aimed for at the beginning of the 20th century. But what about the involvement of all in the city and society today? In collaboration with MAP Markus Ambach Projekte, the Museum Folkwang has sought dialogue with citizens of the city: with initiatives and communities, with start-ups and the retail trade, with designers and activists, with humanitarian organisations and urban planners, with agents from everyday culture and artists. The publication documents the mutual exchange and the artistic projects that renegotiate the future of the city in the public realm in Essen based on the Folkwang idea and open up the museum to the city. With Jeremy Deller, Folke Köbberling, Anouk Kruithof, Gabriela Oberkofler, Simon Starling and many more."-- On front flap of cover.
