Een rondje IJsselmeer

    Edwin Donders: een rondje IJsselmeer

Abstract

"Photographer and cameraman Edwin Donders has seen the banks change since he lived on the IJsselmeer. Dikes are strengthened and raised, beaches disappear and appear. Resorts are popping up like mushrooms. Just like the wind farms. And the Afsluitdijk cannot escape modernization either. His eye is often drawn to circumstances in which people try to make 'the best' of it and thereby leave their mark. In 'A round IJsselmeer' we see a beautiful black and white photo series in which Edwin recorded our interventions around the IJsselmeer. Sometimes subtle and almost unnoticeable, more often very present. Edwin decided not only to photograph the IJsselmeer, but also to delve further into the lake, which used to be a dangerous inland sea. He came across the collection 'Sagas and legends around the Zuiderzee' from 1932 by Simon Franke. The old-fashioned, yet fluent language of Simon Franke formed such a nice contrast with the modern photos of Edwin that he decided to select a number of stories and include them in their entirety in the book."--
