Abstract
The present copy is the third, enlarged and corrected edition of this scarce and valuable gold and silversmith’s handbook which describes the techniques used in the early part of the nineteenth century. The numerous tables, both full-page and folding deal with purity marks, with currency and the relative cost of materials. Five lithographic plates at the rear illustrate contemporary forms: tea and coffee urns, covered tureens, footed chalices, coffee pot, pitcher, cake dish, cake slices, candlesticks, a creamer; jewellery including buckles, brooches, pins, ornaments, necklaces, earrings, letter opener, candle snuffers, sugar tongs, bell, bracelets, etc. The plates are signed Jul. Willing, del. W. Engelmann, Bibliotheca mechanico-technologia, 325. (Charles Wood 160/206)
