De Chantilly à Azay-le-Rideau: Le retour des portraits de la Renaissance

By

Abstract

In 1939, an exceptional collection of 16th century portraits was donated to the Condé de Chantilly museum by the Viscountess de Montaigne de Poncins. This collection was assembled in the 19th century by her ancestor, the Marquis de Biencourt, then owner of the Château d'Azay-le-Rideau. For the first time since this donation, the 36 masterpieces -- restored for the occasion -- will leave Chantilly to hang on the walls of the Château d'Azay-le-Rideau where they were once admired.
