Abstract

"Masterpieces from the Gallerie dell'Accademia and Museum Berggruen in Berlin enter in dialogue. Unexpected comparisons and stimulating reflections spanning the centuries. These form the Elective Affinities, a title borrowed from the famous novel by the German writer Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. At Gallerie dell'Accademia Picasso, Klee, Matisse, and Giacometti find their place next to Giorgione, Sebastiano Ricci, Pietro Longhi, Giambattista Tiepolo, Canova and others; at the Casa dei Tre Oci, works on paper from Berlin are accompanied by selected drawings frmo the Gallerie's Prints and Drawings Cabinet."-- Provided by the publisher.
