Vase
Frans Zwollo (1872-1945), Amsterdam, 1900, silver, turquoise
Frans Zwollo was one of the leading Dutch silversmiths in the beginning of the 20th century. This vase was awarded a gold medal at the World fair in Turin in 1902 and marked his breakthrough. The materials, technique and decoration with peacocks, dragonflies and masks represent the Theosophical idea that man can fathom the divine mystery through meditation.
