Pieter Schenk (1660–1711), engraving, printed in brown, c. 1700

According to the rules printed at top, this game could be played either as a card game or, in the sheet’s uncut form, as a board game. Besides entertainment, the game had a lot of educational value. Represented on each card or box is a detail of a late 17th-century fortification – with an explanation. By playing the game, the player increased his knowledge of fortifications.
