Study of hands and figures
Jacques de Gheyn II (1565-1629), pen and dark brown ink on cartridge paper, c. 1600-1605
This study demonstrates Jacques de Gheyn’s drawing process. He recorded his fanciful ideas directly onto paper in pen and ink with seeming effortlessness. The group of figures in the upper right is difficult to decipher. Two old witches seem to be initiating three young witches into diabolic rituals.
