Strolling in the Gardens of the Palais Royal
Lecoeur, Louis, 1787
During the 1780s the garden of the Palais Royal was a popular spot to take a stroll and show off the latest must-haves. Refreshments were served in the pavilions. Though the neighbourhood did not have a good reputation in the late 18th century (prostitution was rife), the Palais Royal managed to attract both native Parisians and tourists. A visit there was recommended in practically every guidebook.
