Pieter Claesz (1597/1598 - 1660). Still life, 1647. All sorts of objects are spread out on the table. Some of them regularly reappear in still lifes, like the half-filled rummer (wine glass), the wedge of lemon, the roll on a pewter plate, and the crumpled napkin. In this still life Pieter Claesz has opted for colours that are quite close together, forming a monochromatic composition. When Claesz did this work, that style had actually already run its course. Purchased in 1900.

    Stilleven met vis, brood en een geschilde citroen op tinnen borden. Rechts een roemer met wijn, een zoutvat met een schotel peperkorrels en druiven. Tussen de borden liggen enkele noten en een mes.
