Explanatory note

  • Op de derde staat van deze prent staat een opdracht van Joshua Reynolds aan Oliver Goldsmith, met een verwijzing naar het gedicht 'The Deserted Village'. Goldsmith had dit gedicht eerder opgedragen aan Reynolds. Het schilderij van Reynolds draagt als titel 'Resignation', waarvoor George White model stond.
