Getting started with the collection:
Peter and John Healing the Cripple at the Gate of the Temple
Lambertus Suavius (mentioned on object), 1553
Of all the great 16th-century Flemish engravers, Lambert Suavius was the most refined. Even in this monumental engraving, the largest he ever made, he incised the faces, hair, beards, drapery and architecture in the copper plate with utmost precision. It depicts Peter enjoining a crippled beggar whom he has just healed to stand up.
