Getting started with the collection:
Fortune Dividing her Gifts
Jan Harmensz Muller (1571–1628) after Cornelis Cornelisz van Haarlem (1562–1638), engraving, 1590
Fate, goddess of fortune, hovers above the scene, distributing riches – or withholding them – for reasons that are not entirely clear. Some people get so much, others nothing. A few people manage to scramble forward and grab the falling coins, shoving others out of the way. But if you are standing in the wrong place, you really have no chance.
