Getting started with the collection:
Silhouette Photographs
Loen (Caroline) Onnen (1896-1983), gelatin silver prints, 1914-1915
Every other year, Loen Onnen would compile a photo album upon her return to the Netherlands from the Dutch East Indies. Her photographs give an image of social life in higher circles. She also staged groups of friends in silhouette after examples that she found in instruction booklets, such as How to Make Good Pictures published by Eastman Kodak from 1912 and the Dutch edition Hoe men goede foto’s maakt.
