Adriaen van Ostade from Haarlem painted not only a great many genre scenes with farming folk, but also several landscapes. This painting, with its dramatic contrast between light and shadow, betrays the influence of Rembrandt.

    Landschap met oude eik. Duinachtig landschap met links de oude boom. Links zit een man langs de weg, rechts op de achtergrond gaat een herder met schapen over een weg met een stenen brug.
