Lacquer room
Leeuwarden, 1695, the lacquer: China, the ceiling: attributed to Elias and Tobias van Nijmegen, painted and gilded wood, Coromandel lacquer
This room was made for the Court of the Stadholders at Leeuwarden. It formed part of the apartment of the consort of the Frisian stadholder, Princess Henriëtte Amalia von Anhalt-Dessau. The walls are mounted with Chinese screens of Coromandel lacquer. In this enchanting room, filled with exotic furniture and porcelain, the princess liked to drink tea from China.
