Explanatory note

  • Prent uit: Sacra eremus ascetarum, geen plaats, Boëtius Adamsz. Bolswert, 1619. Eerste gebonden uitgave met in totaal vijftig prenten. Prent uit serie van vijfentwintig mannelijke kluizenaars. In 1612 verscheen een ongebonden editie maar op basis van de gewijzigde opschriften en samenstelling wordt aangenomen dat de prenten van de uitgave 1619 ook in 1612 of iets daarvoor gedrukt werden. Roethlisberger beschouwt de uitgave van 1619 als de eerste staat en de ongebonden editie van 1612 als de tweede staat (Roethlisberger 1993, p. 171, 172). Bij de tweede staat werd de naam van de heilige gewijzigd in de heilige Jacobus van Nisibis.
