Explanatory note

  • Prent uit: Ad sacrum speculum recurris? ... patribus dat ales, geen plaats, Boëtius Adamsz. Bolswert, 1612. Tweede ongebonden uitgave met in totaal vijftig prenten. Prent uit serie van drieentwintig mannelijke kluizenaars. In 1619 verscheen een gebonden editie maar op basis van de gewijzigde opschriften en samenstelling wordt aangenomen dat deze prenten ook in 1612 of iets daarvoor gedrukt werden. Roethlisberger beschouwt de uitgave van 1619 als de eerste staat en de ongebonden editie van 1612 als de tweede staat (Roethlisberger 1993, p. 171, 172). Op deze prent is de naam van de heilige Ammonius de Grote gewijzigd in de heilige Abraham.
