Abraham Bosse (mentioned on object), c. 1635 - c. 1636
House concerts brought people together in small groups. They provided social interaction, joy, and fellowship. In order to participate in these middle- and upper-class forms of entertainment young people had to be able to sing, read music and play one or more instrument. Music-making was a language of interaction and a sign of social distinction.
