Entry
Polychromed wooden ‘bread-and-butter’ style half block model of the starboard side of a two-masted paddle steamer, mounted on a rectangular wooden backboard that has been painted white.
The white-painted side is closed and features a closed paddle box. The deck is closed and flush with the side. One black funnel is positioned on deck. The railcap is painted black. The model has a clipper bow. The stern is elliptical. Below the stern a round-headed rudder with a rounded blade is indicated. The sheer rises forward; one sheer rail is indicated. The hull is round with a flat bottom and painted a metallic copper colour below the waterline. The position of two masts and the bowsprit is shown in a truncated form. Both masts rake considerably.
The wooden paddle steamer Siak, 42 metres long, was built between 1874 and 1877 in Surabaya as one of a series of four paddle steamers for the Dutch Colonial Navy.1A.J. Vermeulen, De schepen van de Koninklijke Marine en die der gouvernementsmarine 1814-1962, The Hague 1962, p. 368. The other ships in the same class were Anjer, Tagal and Ternate.
Scale unknown.
