Explanatory note

  • De drie naakte mannenfiguren zijn gebaseerd op de cartons voor de Slag bij Cascina van Michelangelo. Raimondi heeft een eigen compositie gemaakt en de figuren niet als groep gekopieerd. Het landschap waarin de figuren zijn geplaatst, is ontleend aan een prent van Lucas van Leyden, getiteld Mohammed en de monnik Sergius (Shoemaker 1981, p. 90-93).
