Explanatory note

  • Voorstelling geïnspireerd op de literaire tekst 'Frag und antwordt Künig Salomonis und Marcolfi' (gepubliceerd vanaf 1487), origineel getiteld 'Dialogus Salomonis et Marcolfi' (gepubliceerd vanaf 1410). David Funck (1642-1709) kocht 230 ijzeren platen van de prentenmakers uit de familie Hopfer aan, nummerde deze (nu bekend als het Funck nummer) en herdrukte de verder onaangetaste platen onder de titel Operae Hopferianae in 1684 in Neurenberg.
