Floral Still Life

Nicolaes de Bruyn (1571-1656), after Jacob Savery (1565/67-1603), published by: Assuerus van Londerseel (c. 1572-1633), engraving, c. 1605

De Bruyn had a preference for making sizeable engravings. His floral still life after a painting by Jacob Savery is one the largest ever printed. This notwithstanding, the rendering of the flowers is refined and delicately detailed. The birds filling the empty corners were a clever addition devised by the engraver.
