Traces of slavery in my family?
How can you find out if your family was involved in slavery? And why is it important to reconstruct the names and events? Where should you start if you want to research your ancestors and their story? And which questions should you ask?
Writer Marcel van Kanten was given a DNA test kit for his birthday. The thirteen different ethnicities in his DNA form the basis of his search for his family history. Marcel discovered that his ancestors were slaves on plantation Brouwerslust. This brings him into contact with the noble Van Limburg Stirum family who give him access to the archives on the plantation of his ancestors.
