A trans seduction

Jupiter, Disguised as Diana, Seducing the Nymph Callisto Jacob de Wit (1695-1754), oil on canvas, 1727

Jupiter and Callisto. Jupiter, in the guise of Diana, seduces the nymph Callisto in a landscape – the eagle with lightning bolts behind Diana symbolises Jupiter. Would Callisto have allowed herself to be seduced if Jupiter had appeared to her as a male?
