The fantastic art of Vienna

Uittreksel

"Images from the city of dreams. This book is the first to present the work of the Viennese fantastic artists in a single volume ... the renowned masters Klimt, Schiele, Kokoschka, Hundertwasser--and such lesser known but brilliant painters as Erich Brauer, Ernst Fuchs, Rudolf Hausner, Anton Romako and others. Here in the twilight zone between reality and fantasy are the dreamlike visions, the strange beings, the imaginary landscapes that reflect the fantastic artists' twin obsessions with the exploration of nature and the expostion of the self. Sensual, decadent, erotic and frightening, diverse in style and technique, these superb works hold the same strange beauty, fascination and perverse humor that are embedded in the character of Vienna itself."-- On back of cover.
