Uittreksel

Built at the turn of the twentieth century, the Thiel Gallery is one of Europe's most meticulously designed art galleries. The architecture and interior design of the beautiful original building, and the art collection it houses, form a unique whole that expresses the longing for radical new ideals that prevailed around 1900. Since the 1920s, the Thiel Gallery has also been one of Sweden's foremost museums of art. This book is the first to tell the full story behind the gallery created by Ernest Thiel, the financier and art collector. It offers insights into the history of art, architecture, garden design and philosophy, and we learn about the lives of leading cultural figures and the zeitgeist at the dawn of the twentieth century. The authors are all leading specialists in their fields, and the many illustrations and photos bring the reader closer to the museum and its founder.
