Uittreksel
"Since its opening in November 1980, the Kyushu Ceramic Museum has conducted chronological research on Kyushu ceramics, particularly early ceramics from the Hizen region around Arita, where the museum is located, while systematically collecting and exhibiting related items. To commemorate the 45th anniversary of the museum's founding, the museum is pleased to present a special exhibition focused on shoki-Imari (early Imari) ware. The early 17th century saw the abrupt development of white, hard porcelain, which was previously unknown in Japan. During the first half of the 17th century, porcelain production advanced rapidly as an industry. The porcelain produced in the Hizen region during this period is known as shoki-Imari (early Imari), and it continues to draw the keen interest of collectors and researchers today. Recent studies have revealed that the earliest attempts at porcelain production occurred in present-day Taku and Imari before moving to Arita, where the industry rapidly advanced and flourished. The exhibition focuses on the dawn of porcelain production. Through a collection of outstanding shoki-Imari (early Imari) items that fascinate us even today and historical materials that reveal the technological innovations of the time, the exhibition sheds light on the true origins and development of Japanese porcelain"-- Greeting (page [2]).
