Uittreksel

A dive into the world of collections and collectors in China, with a group of impassioned epigraphy and numismatic literalists gravitating around Beijing during the first half of the nineteenth century. From buying antique dealers to scholarly meetings, this book reveals the haggling and polemics that ancient coins arouse, but also the gifts and the signs of friendship. It shows a complex social network made up of collectors, numismatists, antiquarians, stampers and forgers.
