Uittreksel
Munich is a prime model of a German princely capital in the forefront of the Thirty Years' War. The Augsburg art agent and diplomat Philipp Hainhofer (1578-1647) visited the Bavarian capital seven times between 1603 and 1636. Almost all stays are well documented. Hainhofer's itineraries are excellent sources for art historical and historical research particularly with regard to the urban pattern of Munich in the early 17th century. This volume brings together eleven contributions of applied research of princely courts with a special focus on art and collection policy, the art of description from the perspective of travelers, and the connection between material culture, style formation, and denomination.--Page [4] of cover.
