Thérèse Schwartze self-portrait

From the series Fris in de collectie

This self-portrait by the Dutch artiste Thérèse Schwartze (1851-1918) reached the attention of the Rijksmuseum in a remarkable way: Two of our sharp-eyed curators noticed it on television, when it appeared in the Dutch art valuation show Tussen Kunst en Kitsch. The painting had been hanging in a nursing home for many years.

The self-portrait was purchased with support from the Women of the Rijksmuseum Fund.
