Young Servant Holding a Dish

François Boucher, 1713 - 1770

The graceful and dynamic pose of this figure derives from the fluid outlines. Even though Boucher left out the lower part of his sitter's body, he managed to capture his essence with the elongated fingers, curved back, and head cocked to the side. In his usual manner, Boucher used a lighter red and white chalk to build up the figure's volume.
