Three Parasols

after drawing by Brock, Jan van, 1916

Though different in shape, all three parasols are of oriental inspiration. Originally intended to protect a woman’s pale complexion, by this time the parasol served more as a flirtatious accessory when out for a stroll. A fashionable woman never set foot outside without her parasol, hat, gloves or handbag.
